What is SUTURED IMG/PRA?
SUTURED IMG/PRA is a focused, handson procedural skills course designed specifically for International Medical Graduates preparing for Practice Ready Assessments (PRAs) across Canada. Over the past eight years, many IMGs have asked for PRArelevant content—and we’ve listened. This expanded version of SUTURED integrates the clinical skills, procedures, and communication competencies commonly evaluated in PRA programs nationwide.
What additional topics are included?
In addition to the core SUTURED curriculum (laceration repair, biopsies, local anaesthesia, wound management, etc.), the IMG/PRA stream includes new PRAaligned modules. These additions come directly from previous IMG registrants’ feedback and from reviewing PRA procedural expectations.
Newly added topics include:
- Abscess management — including two incision & drainage techniques
-
Intraarticular injections — knee and shoulder, taught in both didactic and practical
sessions - Splinting & casting — principles plus hands on casting practice
-
History taking & communication skills — with emphasis on daily team
communication, documentation, and PRA style expectations - Dedicated practical sessions for all of the above (see schedule for details)
These additions complement the existing SUTURED content such as wound closure
techniques, skin biopsies, digital blocks, staple/tissue adhesive use, and advanced laceration repair.
Is this course CFPC MAINPRO+ accredited?
No. This course is intended for IMGs preparing for PRA programs and who are not yet enrolled in the CFPC continuing professional development cycle.
Who should attend?
Any IMG preparing for a provincial Practice Ready Assessment—including PRA-BC, PRA-AB, PRA-MB, NL-PRA, and others—who wants structured, intensive practice in the procedural and communication skills commonly evaluated during assessment.
Should I attend?
Before registering, compare our schedule with the procedural and communication requirements of your specific PRA program. If your PRA includes laceration repair, biopsies, abscess management, joint injections, splinting, or communication assessments, this course is designed to support those needs.
Have IMGs attended SUTURED before?
Yes. Approximately 40% of SUTURED participants over the past eight years have been IMGs preparing for their PRA. Many have successfully completed their assessments and are now in independent practice. Their feedback directly shaped the expanded IMG/PRA curriculum—particularly the addition of abscess management, joint injections, splinting, and communication skills.
